How To Perform Windows Update:
Microsoft's Windows Update site provides a relatively easy way to rid your Windows computer of defects that circumvent the security of your computer. Without updates, simply attaching the computer to the network or visiting a malicious web site could allow third parties to take control of your computer, your accounts, and your files.
The first time is the hardest because you will need many critical updates. After the first time, its easy.
The following screen shots show the sequence of events. They vary somewhat in appearance from computer to computer but are very similar in function. After you do it once, it is very easy.
Before starting, close down all other programs and do not try to run anything else during the update process.
After applying any critical updates you must revisit Windows Update web site until you are told there are no more critical updates needed. Otherwise, you will still be vulnerable. This is because some updates can only be applied after earlier ones are applied.
1. Click the START button on you computer and select (WINDOWS UPDATE)
* There is a possibility that you will get a windows asking to install a Microsoft tool that will enable the website to scan for updates on your computer, click YES. If you do not get the message that is ok.
2. Click the link in the middle of the page labeled Scan for Updates
3. Your computer will now be scanned for any necessary updates. After it has finished scanning it will return to another page.
4. Click the link labeled Review and install updates located in the middle of the page
6. Click the Install Now button
7. You may receive a message on your screen:depending on which updates you need. Click OK, and follow the on screen instructions selecting all the default values. For example, click NEXT and OK for every step.
8. Once the current update is done, it will ask you to restart your computer, select OK to restart.
9. Follow these instructions from step one until you get the message that your computer is up to date and there are no available updates.
How To Perform A System Restore:
The purpose of restoring your computer is to get back all the vital operating system information that may be damaged or missing. This can happen when someone hacks your files, or if you download a corrupt file. A system restore is essential in times where your computer may have crashed, or you need to restore it to the factory presets for any reason. This process may vary in time due to the speed of your processor.
1. Click the "Start" button in the bottom left corner of your desktop. In Vista and XP, you will navigate to and click on "All Programs." Once inside this submenu, locate and click on "Accessories," and then "System Tools." Under the System Tools menu will be many options. You will need to click on "System Restore." This will begin the restore process
2. A new window will appear in Vista asking your permission to continue. Click on "Yes" to proceed. For Vista and XP computers, a new window will appear, and at the top will say "Restore System Files and Settings." This gives you options as to using the "Recommended Restore" or a "Different Restore Point." The System Restore never affects your pictures, personal files or documents, so you will never lose this important information.
3. If you choose Different Restore Point, click "Next" and you will be given a calendar of dates to choose from. You can now click on a date and hit "Next." This will complete your new restore point, and you will need to restart your computer for the change to take effect.
4. If you choose Recommended Restore, click on "Next" at the bottom of the window to proceed. This step insures that you actually want to restore to the restore point you have chosen in the previous screen.
5. Close all open programs and hit the "Finish" button now. Once you have clicked on Finish, the screen will return to your desktop for a moment, and you will have no control over your system at all. The system will sometimes flash a window with a progress bar in older Windows versions.
6. Once the restore has completed, your computer will automatically restart to make the changes permanent. When you are again able to control your computer, it will be back to the presets that were specified when you chose your option of how to restore. Congratulations, you have just restored your computer.
How To Add A New Hard Drive To Your Pc:
If you need to add extra room to store your songs, movies and pictures, or for backup all your data, the option is installing a new Hard Drive to your computer, and in these days the storage cost per Gig is quite affordable.
That is exactly what I have done on my computer but it was not so easy as I thought and I had to struggle a bit before it was working fine.
After you have physically installed the HD inside your computer, if internal,or connected via USB2 , if external, you won't be able to see the new HD on My Computer folder until you assign a Volume to it and format the HD.
Now,whether the Hard Drive is external or internal here is,step by step what has to be done to force Windows to recognize the Hard Drive and find it in the My Computer folder.
When you start your computer press immediately F2 or Esc depending on your motherboard to enter the Bios setup, go to
Advanced > Drives and check if the new HD has been detected.
If it's a Sata HD and the first HD is Pata you probably have to change the RAID option to IDE.
Exit the Bios ,save the changes and finish booting.
Go to Start > ControlPanel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management Select Disk Management from the left pane
On the right pane you can see all your disks and volumes but not the new one , you should be able to see it on the right-lower pane labeled as disk 1 probably, if the other one is disk 0.
Click on the disk that is recognized as the new HD and create a new volume following the wizard and format it.
Close the Computer Management Window and go to MyComputer. The HD should be there now with the new volume and the Label you gave it.
How To Check Your Ram Memory:
If your computer has become very slow and, when you try to open a program like Nero or Microsoft Office, it takes ages before the computer loads it, maybe your Ram memory is not enough.
I'll briefly explain, what is the Ram memory? It's the fast memory where the computer loads the programs and all the data it needs to run them. It doesn't keep any record on it. when you close that program you'll free the share of memory that had been allocated earlier to run that program, and when you turn off your computer all the memory will be free and the data and setting will be saved on the Hard Drive. When the Ram memory is not enough to load or to run the program you want to use, Windows creates a virtual memory on your HD so that it can avoid the computer to stop, but this memory is a lot slower, and your computer will be like a turtle.
You must consider that to run Windows XP you'll need 256 megabytes of Ram but to be OK with the other programs, preferably 512 MB and if you are doing video and photo editing , 1 Gig Ram is what you look at.
To check how much memory you have installed on your computer do this:
For XP
- Click Start Right click on My Computer and select Properties.
- On the General Tab you can see how much Ram you have and what processor .

For Vista
- Click Start Right click on My Computer and select Properties.
-Scroll Half-Way down and you will see something like this

If A Program Dosen't Close:
What to do if your program isn't closing even in Task Manager.
Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete on your Keyboard.
Go to Task Manager
Right-Click on the Program that isn't closing Click (Go to Proccess)
Right - Click on the Highlighted Program
Click (End Proccess)
A pop-up box will open and click (End Proccess) and it will close straight away
If you lose all of your screen (e.g Taskbar) Go to Task Manager again and Click New Task
type explorer.exe and it will come back if not then restart your computer by pushing the on/off button....
